I forgot to look in GC, bummer. (sure be nice if you could catch a horse from around camelot all the way to the portal. lol ) I looked for awhile in camelot, but wouldn't surprise me if I missed her. I'm not even sure how involved crafting is in this game yet (or anything about it really), so I'm prolly not gonna jump in it too fast. Though I would like to know what stuff I should save for later. I'll have to look into that.
I went and checked out Mithra's Tomb. Might be good at 9, but at 8 I'd want at least one other with me, everything was yellow and higher... and aggro. first thing I saw when I loaded in was 7 graves on a stairway. lol
I can kill back to back yels w/out much of a prob, but 2 at a time = death. or, a yel followed by an orange or vice versa. I don't have a real hard time with oranges, but I have to rest afterward (and let my dmg buff refresh). I tried getting to 9 tonight before the Canes game so I could see if the Tomb went to mostly blues.. but I have 3 bubs to go.
btw- I got a bracelet for my 7th quest. MAN is it nice! didn't expect anything like that (flex +1, soul +1, hp +3 and a couple of others. I was very surprised it was that good.) can't wait to see some higher lvl gear. or some crafted gear. EQOA crafted stuff sucks. basically good for grinding (high dur) or as a "filler" piece. (ie- have one bracelet that's lore- so I can only wear one- so I get a lvl 10 crafted bracelet for the other wrist. lvl 10 gives +48 to one stat). nothing in that game that does multiple stats or anything, so that's a drag. everything I've seen/read about weaps/armor/etc list player crafted up near the top.
I'm hoping after a few more levels I'll start finding some good ppl to group with. so far I haven't met many people worth talking to, and asking questions to 'all' is a waste of typing. asked 4-5 questions today over the course of a few hours, and didn't get a response on any. kind of disappointing from a community standpoint so far. I'm sure a good list of friends or a guild with players in my range would change that a lot. we'll see. I'm not giving up or anything. lol. I'm still learning the pros/cons of the reaver, once I can handle any situation solo, I'll move to group and work on learning to play that way.
I'm not worried. once you start playing with people and they see you're a solid player who knows to do, and has good mmorpg philosophies, it all falls into place. hehe
well.. enough rambling. plus Shell is done with the PC, so time to grind out 9 real quick |

so I just figured out "tasks" yesterday. silly me was clicking on the "Task" button (and being told "you haven't been given a task", or entering /task, and being told the same thing.
little did I know I had to /say help
since then I've done a mess, and I'm a 3rd of the way through lvl 9. this is going much faster now. :smacks forehead: |

Doh! I thought I'd explained that to you.

lol, no biggie
I was getting xp like mad from them yesterday though. I got a task in Ludlow, which sent me to Humberton, and I kept getting tasks that ran me back and forth (deliveries). Nice and close, only a couple of mins of running... so I knocked out like 8 in an hour. was pretty nice.
then I took a break, because I wanted to check out Tomb of Mithra to see if those yels were now blues. but nope, went in and had 2 yel mobs (shoulder to shoulder) at the bottom of the stairs. One more level before I can solo there I guess.
there's a good dragon ant camp right outside though, that's where I've been. only 2 bubs from 10. |

I have a question--
I have a quest to finish (Leoma's Sight. from Leoma in Prydwen Keep). According to allakhazam and warcry, I have to create a potion for her out of 2 items I collected.
it says to drop the plant into the elixir. I have no clue how to do that. I've tried in inventory, I've tried putting elixir in the quickbar... I've tried some commands.
the closest I got (maybe) was to right click on the elixir to get the small info box up, then "pickup" the plant, and drop it on the elixir icon in the box. it then asks if I want to drop this item. I don't want to drop it and have to find another, no, but I would like to drop it into the elixir.
show me the light please. lol.
nm- I got it. figured out I had to enter a quickslot # after "E". that did the trick. duh. hehe |

1/3 through lvl 12, spending lots of time in Mithra.
farming a nice set of Forlorn armor. nice stuff for low lvl, I was surprised.
just need the arms and legs now.
my toon is a pretty sweet soloer, I like it. |

Vurra sweet.
Have you been jumped by the bleeder yet? It tends to go after the highest-level toon in the dungeon (which always amuses me, especially when I'm down there with one of my high-level toons). _________________ Never give up! Never surrender! |

lol, yeah, yesterday I did. it's kind of funny...
I was fighting in the front hallway (before I hit 12, which turned the front of the tomb mostly green)... and some guy was repeatedly training a few mobs by me... trying to get to the load exit before he died I assume. Once he had a yellow bleeder with him. first time I saw one, so I conned it, and it said neutral. thought, cool... I don't have to deal with him. I was at half end and hp, would've ended ugly for me.
so after I ding 12, I go deeper in the dungeon looking for more. Saw a room with a couple oranges in it, I turn around and go back.. well, a bleeder followed me. I thought "huh, that's odd. so much for neutral." lol.
now I know why. guess I'll keep an eye out.
Woah. while I was typing (on my laptop, pc next to me was loading into game)... someone was trying to make the exit... with 2 aged bleeders on him (orange). and they con agro. I'm standing on the first landing, bleeder next to me... waiting to see if he does anything. but he's just posting for screenshots right now. lol |

Yeah, very few (like maybe 1% if that) of the mobs in DAOC will aggro on others after they've been trained. When a train goes by, don't do anything to it and just let it wander back to its starting location. If you do anything to disturb it (for example, kick in an AE effect while the train's wandering home), the whole train will come back and kick your butt.
Certain mobs are "always-aggro", like the telamons in Lyonesse and the xanxicarians in Avalon City. There are some mobs like that in Hibernia and Midgard too, but I have yet to find them. _________________ Never give up! Never surrender! |

hey- what's the general rule for armor/weaps/etc...
is orange-conned equipment wearable/useable? or is it best to wait until it's yellow? I've been avoiding buying orange gear when I do buy some..
but I just did my 15 quest, and got orange Sleeves. they're very nice. I guess a follow up would be... if orange is too high... what is the penalty for wearing it anyway? quicker degredation, or more serious?
thanks |

oh, I'm also checking out DF.
not on purpose, I was wandering around mithra, and took some stairs up.. ended up in a zombie hut and couldn't find my way back down. so I killed a few gargs and entered the cave. I'll check it out later, time to go home. lol
edit-- 1: yellows here are much rougher than yels in mithra. lol.
2: I dropped down, and now I can't get back up. guess I'll have to 'bloodgate' as we call it in eqoa. |

Assuming you got into DF from the alb entrance--just come down the steps and then hang a right, and that'll take you out of the dungeon and back to the Cam Hills. _________________ Never give up! Never surrender! |

Stuff that cons orange and yellow is perfect for your toon. Red and purple gear will degrade faster--which means that you have to take it to a smith every so often to get it repaired (and if it's high purple (like more than 20 levels above you), any magic that it has on it will fail to affect you at all).
Blue, green, and grey equipment degrades much more slowly (or not at all). _________________ Never give up! Never surrender! |

cool thanks!
I did kill about 10 yellow mobs by the alb entrance yesterday before I left work. they were giving like 35k xp. very nice! think I got almost 3 bubs off those 10 mobs. haha
dropping 5-7s too which is nice, though some gear now and then would be alright. think I'll go back to working the depths of mithra for a bit. I've killed a couple of nameds down there... they seem to always drop a chest, that has a lot of money in it.
don't nameds drop nice gear in this game? in eq that's the only place the really good stuff comes from. |

They do (in fact, all mobs have a chance to drop something really cool), but it all depends on chance--so a named mob won't always drop a named item.
As you get to higher levels (around 35-40ish or so), btw, you'll probably want to look into getting player-crafted armor and weaponry (unless you're fortunate enough to find a 98% quality or better drop). Player-crafted stuff can be expensive, but IMO it's well worth it because the quality of an item affects its usefulness (so a piece of armor with 95% quality actually helps your AF better than a piece of 85% quality armor).
Condition also affects an item's usefulness to you, btw--so be sure to take your gear to a smith every so often to get repaired. Just keep an eye on the durability--every time you get an item repaired, its durability drops a couple points. When its durability reaches 0, it can't be repaired anymore and needs replaced. _________________ Never give up! Never surrender! |

have any suggestions on good places to hunt at 16'ish?
a solid grind would put me at 17, so I'm not far.
I'm starting to see more and more places that are very dangerous to solo.
deeper areas of Mithra are still good, but it's quite easy to have 4 on you in no time (damn priests have bleeders following them around). I found the Ogre camp in Camp Forest, that's not bad. I snuck up on top of one of their buildings, and was doing good single pulling from up above. but a couple of times I got an add. 2 yellows is pretty rough. the one that made me move on though was when a yellow brought along the Ogre Lord (orange). Luckily I was able to run to the guard tower nearby.
I just made the mistake of checking out the little island by that tower, and saw Thornpaw (blue-con wolf), so I pulled him, and out of nowhere came Grizzletooth (purple!), who critted me for 130hp. I turned to run to the tower, and by the time the camera swung 180degrees, I was dropped. not pretty at all.
I'm bound in Av Marsh now, right by the portal to SI area, so any places here or there you can think of would be cool. blues and yels are cake. yel BAFs will cause some excitement, but I can normally survive them, as long as I can rest after. blue BAFs ain't much of a problem.
I have a feeling it's getting close to group time. it's just tough when I'm at work, I don't want to have to bail on a group. |

At 16th level....hmm.
You might want to try mixing killtasks and one-time drop quests in with "regular" exping at this point. If you want some real excitement, hit DF and kill mobs at the entrance--at 16th or so, I believe the rats at the entrance are orange to you. They're single-pull only, and you can get some decent amounts of coin from each kill. If you'd rather stay in Avalon Marsh, then Quicksands (down by the bridge to Caer Witrin) would be good. You can also try ghoul footmen and the occasional black bear (which are closer to Cornwall).
When you hit 20th level, head back into Camp Forest and hit Keltoi Fugou (SEish of Caer Ulfwych). You can solo the gremlins and the keltoi initiates at the entrance (be careful though, the gremlins are the kind of aggro mobs that will attack you just for standing there after they either kill somebody or get trained to the entrance). You can also head back to Mithra at 20 and vent your frustrations on Favonius and Virilis (who are blue and green to you at that point). _________________ Never give up! Never surrender! |

yeah, I've beat up on the rats at DF some. pretty good xp, and yes, nice coin. I imagine I'll wander back that way soon.
I have been doing occasional tasks/quests when I find them too. that's what I did yesterday. trying to take advantage of tasks while I still can. hehe |

Another good place to go (since you're on the co-op server) is Midgard. I can show you around some of my favorite lowbie hunting spots in that realm if you're ever interested. _________________ Never give up! Never surrender! |

Ding, 17
man, weirdest thing. I died while exploring DF. had a nice train of PF's I was bound in Av Marsh, hadn't been to trainer since dinging, so I went to spend my points. I was getting booted left and right in Gothwaite Harbor and Caer Gothwaite. Game just shuts down, I go back in, shuts down, etc. Thought it was a buggy NPC (healer in Caer), so while it was loading, I run. It works, back in game, cool right? no.
Wander around trying to remember where the reaver trainer is. game shuts down again. and again. get back in, talk to reaver, think... screw this, get out of SI. Run down to harbor to get to portal, 3 more boots in a row. btw- after the first 3 boots, thought maybe it was PC. rebooted, and killed any non-critical resources. so it wasn't my pc. Got out of SI, and haven't had a burp yet. bizarre. sent a bug report.. though I couldn't tell them much. damn character limit. Plus it usually takes several days for them to respond while I'm there. Guess I'll stay out of SI for a bit though, that sucked. killed my last hour of the day.
think I'll probably hang out in DF for a bit again though, xp is good, and making a nice bank now that I've had my first death for this level though, and I've seen down 4-5 ramps... I'll sit still on the top 2 levels. that crap was nasty. sprinting through and I just see red/purple mobs everywhere. lmao |

Oh gods yes--don't try soloing past the merchants in DF (except the necyomancers) until you hit at least 27th level, when the fiends and the soultorns will be mostly orange and yellow to you. And be especially careful for the plated fiends--those bad boys have one hellacious aggro radius!
If you'd like to try taking on some fiends sometime, let me know. I can get on Weatherbuffer to group with you so that you have some heals and buffs. It's no biggie to me if you have to log for work, because I can always get one of my other toons on after you log. _________________ Never give up! Never surrender! |

Ding- 20!
I'm kind of surprised at how quickly these levels have gone.. I mean, soloing ain't the fastest thing in the world. and I really only play at work. I can see it slowing down each level I get.. but 19 wasn't bad at all. really just got it done in a few hours today, mostly on quicksands, with an occasional roam towards the ghouls. |

well, I picked up FFXI last night, and I'm putting it on my work PC right now. (started at 8:30am, and it won't be done until about 11:30!! about 2hrs of updates. crazy).
so, I've cancelled my DAoC account for the time being. My first billing cycle hadn't started yet, and figured I'd play FFXI for a bit w/out paying for 3 frigging MMORPGs. lol.
hard to say what I'll do in the near future. I liked DAoC more than I figured I would. cool game for sure. But meeting ppl is tough when I only play at work (or at least 90% of the time). With FFXI I have lots of eqoa friends trying it out. Plus, I can get a toon started on PC, then next month when my hard drive (with FFXI pre-loaded) arrives for the PS2, I can just get on and go. Then I'll be back to my livingroom.
I love the fact that I can play on PC and PS2, and play the same game/toon/etc. very nice.
I have no idea which MMORPG I'll end up sticking with. so many good games out there. I've been waiting a couple of years for FFXI though, so there's no way I wasn't going to play it for a bit.
Thanks for the help you gave me, it definitely helped. who knows, maybe I'll seeya back in Camelot someday.
Still got WOW to think about too.... dammit! |
